Building, renovating or making alterations to a home is a massive task and there are a few things to consider and have in place before you even think to start. Here is some very brief direction you can follow to help you on your way.
1) Get a detailed contract agreement in place.
2) Find out what certificates you will receive once the building has been completed.
3) Find out what your contractors capacity is at the moment:
All is fair and well, but too much work on someone’s plate is never a good thing, and we like to give our customers the best service possible. There will be scheduling in the construction industry from time to time and sometimes having to be patient to get the best service and attention will bring you a long way, after all you don’t want quick fix solution, you want to your dream home to be perfect.
4) Talk to the planning department of your local municipality:
This is very important. It’s an accepted tenet in the law to have ‘proper enjoyment of your property’. But that doesn’t mean you can just do what you want. There are many rules and regulations in place that can end up being a bit of a mine field. Talking to the planning department will help you get clued up with the do’s and don’ts and have you get what you want with assurance to its safety.
5) Lastly, it is required by law for your contractor to be registered with the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC). Certain requirement needs to be met before NHBRC will certify you. All regulated industry criteria concerning construction, technical and financial capabilities needs to be met by the building contractors NHBRC certifies you. Yes, we are NHBRC certified.
